At Stopp we produced the Red Bull Best Ad Contest campaign for John Doe Worldwide. It was a competition in which users could post their script for a Red Bull TV-commercial. The winner story is going to be actually produced.
We bravely decided to move away from shiny Flash campaigns, even though that was the client’s first request.
Our idea was to build a community platform, involving creative schools in Sweden to get the critical mass of users that would trigger the chain reaction which brought in 1155 entries (well over the 200 the client was hoping for.)
The user could compose their story writing text, uploading pictures, or embedding videos from Youtube. To help users get fresh ideas, we built an inspiration section, were other users could post videos, links or images the found inspiring.
To make the awareness of the competition spread we implemented Twitter, Facebook and all the compulsory social network tools, plus a badge to promote stories on blogs and other sites.
On top of developing the strategy with Norbert and Johan, I also got to do some fun work designing and cel-animating some Red Bull-style characters for the site.
